Dear Journal,
Can you believe it?!? Walter Cunningham came for dinner at our house today, and when I tried to correct his manners Calpurnia scolded me! He is a Cunningham! The next day at school Miss Caroline tried to scold Burris Ewell, just another sign that she is not familiar with Maycomb. I asked Atticus why the Ewells didn't have to come to school and he said something about “bending the law.” I still don't really understand it but now by “bending the law” I can still read with Atticus at night. I'm still trying to convince him to get me out of school but I'm not sure that it's working.
