Chapter 23: July 1935

Dear Journal,
Yesterday Bob Ewell spat in Atticus’s face and threated to kill him. Atticus doesn’t seem to be worried but I am really scared. Atticus says that he needed to take his anger out on someone and he decided to take it out on him and that’s all he is gonna do but I’m still scared.  Me and Jem have been trying really hard for Atticus to take Bob Ewell seriously so we have been coming up with plans to try but he keeps saying no and that it is only a threat, but he tried to explain it and we feel a little better. Atticus also tried to explain the outcome of the case and why things like this happen in Maycomb. I also asked if we could have Walter Cunningham over for dinner and Aunt Alexandria yelled at me telling he that folks like us don’t hang around folks like them. I really don’t understand it but I think Jem does, he says I’ll change my mind about it soon enough, but for now we are going to bed.
